James Hawkins Assumes Co-Editorship
of Croquet World Online Magazine
A joint announcement and article on the front page of www.CroquetWorld.com confirms that British croquet writer and editor James Hawkins of Liverpool has become the co-editor of the sport's online magazine. The story details Hawkins' background and describes the move as part of an extensive "re-launch" of the sport's online magazine that will unfold throughout 2006.
In addition to the advent of Hawkins to take control of all aspects of writing, reporting and advertising generated in Europe, the editors plan numerous expansions in coverage on all the continents and the creation of new features designed to make Croquet World Online Magazine an indispensable gateway to the croquet world, for both associated players and the broader public interested in exploring the sport.
The magazine was started in 1996 in San Francisco by founding editor Bob Alman, with the assistance of the current Webmaster, Bob Henry. Later additions to the American webteam were designer Adam Stock and long-time designer and layout artist Reuben Edwards. In 1998, a development grant from the Croquet Foundation of America funded primarily by Ellery McClatchy enabled the development and maintenance of the magazine as it is presently configured.
Hawkins, an accomplished croquet player and editor of the English Croquet Gazette from 2001 through 2005, lives in Liverpool not far from the five public lawns he is helping to develop in partnership with the City Council. Like co-editor Bob Alman, Hawkins has long involved himself in development issues both as a local organizer and as a writer. Both Hawkins and Alman view the expansion and further development of Croquet World Online Magazine as contributing to the larger goal of the global development of the sport.
