The Canterbury Open Championships were held from 30 Nov to 3 December at the United Croquet Club in Hagley Park.

Doubles

Winners: Peter Parkinson and Rodger Lane 6/6 wins
Runners up: Jenny Mitchell and Jenny Williams 4/6 wins
3rd equal: Carl Horn and Tom Durkin, Daph Parkins and Jan

Singles

Winner: Jenny Williams 7/7 wins
Second: Peter Parkinson 5/7 wins
Third: Jane McIntyre 5/7 wins
Fourth: AJ Reid 4/7 wins
other competitors: Carl Horn (Nelson), Tom Durkin (Nelson/Westport), Mike McClure (Nelson), Steve Wardle (Kaiapoi)

Canterbury Championships

The Canterbury Championships were held at United and St Martins croquet clubs 3-5 February (singles) with doubles to follow. Preliminary results are:

Singles:0-3 handicap: Winner: Rodger Lane (St James)
4-9 handicap: Block winners: Rodger Cullen (Elmwood) and Joan Ryan (Kaiapoi). Rodger Cullen won the playoff.
10+ handicap: Block winners: Magnus McGee (United) and Tony O'Donnell (United). Magnus McGee won the playoff.

Doubles:
0-9: Winners: Rodger Lane and Marie Thompson; Runners-Up: Kevin Cusack & Geraldine Murphy
10-12: Winners: Sally Jeffcott and Dormer Gardner; Runners-Up: Josie Laing and Cath Best
