The club is at the foot of towering cliffs which were
damaged during the 2010/11 earthquakes. Boulders and rocks
fell on the lawns making most of the area unplayable. The
club house was not damaged. Resumption of play at the club
is dependant on stabilising the cliffs area and for the time
being is in recess..
The Club land has been zoned "red"
and members are not allowed on the lawns except to mow them.
The central lawn has tons of rock on it and removing this material
is likely to increase damage. More work on the cliff face is
to be carried out. It may be several years before the club can
be re-established.

The Sumner Croquet Club is found on the north side of Wakefield
Ave (near the hills) not far south from Mayland Street. It is
visible just below the road.
