Sumner Croquet Club

The club is at the foot of towering cliffs which were damaged during the 2010/11 earthquakes. Boulders and rocks fell on the lawns making most of the area unplayable. The club house was not damaged. Resumption of play at the club is dependant on stabilising the cliffs area and for the time being is in recess..
The Club land has been zoned "red" and members are not allowed on the lawns except to mow them. The central lawn has tons of rock on it and removing this material is likely to increase damage. More work on the cliff face is to be carried out. It may be several years before the club can be re-established.

Location:

The Sumner Croquet Club is found on the north side of Wakefield Ave (near the hills) not far south from Mayland Street. It is visible just below the road.
