The Arthur Ross Memorial Event

This is a singles handicap competition which starts with a play-off between members of a club, progresses to an interclub playoff at Association level and finishes with a national final held in Wellington.

Originally the entire competition used a knockout (also known as a Bagnal-Wild) draw and this form of competition or a two-life one is still favoured by the NZCC. However, clubs and Associations are now free to use whichever form of draw is most suited to their circumstances. The rules state that the Associations must have their play-offs by the third week of January and that the national finals be held in March.
