The world of croquet was
saddened to learn of the death of Charles Jones while on holiday in
Thailand. Charles had been a player since the 1970's and began his
career in Westport (his home town) and Christchurch. He was elected
as President of the N Z Croquet Council for a 4-year term from 1993,
was a superb manager of New Zealand MacRob and Trans-Tasman teams
and at the time of his death was President of the World Croquet Federation.
He brought a lively and sometimes wicked sense of humour to the game
and was known for both his forthright views and tireless work for
the game at all levels. He was a Justice of the Peace and was awarded
the Queens Service Medal in 2000 for public service. He will be missed. |
